The Department of Engineering includes various scientific specializations such as Architectural Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geology, and Petrology. These specialties serve both the public and academic domains. The engineering department staff have several intellectuals researching the latest scientific interventions globally.
The architectural staff intends to address all the issues related to the rapid growth of our cities. They aim to find the proper solutions for all the problems that come with it. The structural engineering staff seeks to discover the latest technology in constructing buildings for the sake of more sustainable structures that meet the current needs of our expanded cities. Many interventions accrued related to preserving our heritage buildings via the latest VR technology which helped our history to be acknowledged worldwide.
For the geology department, we can proudly say that we have the most influential and active academic staff. They offered many geological findings to the Kurdistan region and gave KISSR more scientific richness.
Our laboratory facilities at KISSR are equipped with many advanced machines. We have three major laboratories: the petroleum, the optics, and the geology. They serve different sectors.
First, the petroleum laboratory provides quality analytical data at affordable prices. They supply services to postgraduate students, researchers, lecturers, major oil companies, oil service companies, and municipalities. They are analyzing a variety of matrices including water, gas, hydrocarbon, and environmental samples. Second, the optics laboratory provides solid models for optics, which is an advanced feature available in very few programs. The lab includes automatic optimization. This feature varies selected parameters of the optical system, such as lens radii, glass type, and thickness, to produce the best possible image. Lastly, the geology laboratory holds a wide range of rock and soil testing activities, collecting, processing, testing, and interpreting data related to the geotechnical, mining, and petroleum sectors around the world.
The Department of Engineering Research is dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge and technological innovation across various engineering disciplines, including Architectural Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geology, and Petrology. We aim to address urban challenges, enhance sustainability in construction, and preserve cultural heritage through cutting-edge research and applications. Our state-of-the-art laboratories provide high-quality analytical services to support academia, industry, and local communities, fostering collaboration and growth in the Kurdistan region and beyond.
To be a leading center of engineering research and innovation, recognized globally for our contributions to sustainable urban development, heritage preservation, and geological advancements. We aspire to empower the next generation of engineers and researchers, creating impactful solutions that address contemporary challenges while enriching our academic and industrial landscapes. Through continuous improvement and collaboration, we envision a future where our research drives progress and enhances the quality of life for all.
