A workshop entitled “Scientific Recovery of DNA Evidence from the Crime Scene” was conducted by Dr. Balnd Mustafa Albarzinji, who holds a PhD in Forensic Genetics and leads the Molecular Biology Department at KISSR. This workshop took place during the scientific trip led by Prosha Qalandar, Head of the Criminal Evidence Department at Bright Technical and Vocational Institute. During the trip, students visited the Department of Molecular Biology at KISSR, which covered crucial topics, including the latest techniques for detecting and recovering biological evidence from crime scenes. Dr. Albarzinji emphasised the scientific methods for preserving DNA samples and analysing them to ensure they serve as robust evidence in the judicial process.
During the visit, in the presence of Dr. Ali Talib Arif, Director of Academic Relations at KISSR, researchers and staff from the Molecular Biology Department (Ara Khalil, Bahez Osman, Khanzad Ahmad) shared several essential pieces of information with the students. Furthermore, the students expressed that they benefited immensely from the information presented, which will enhance their scientific skills in analysing criminal evidence and utilising it for judicial purposes.
