Department of Microbiology

About Department

The Department of Microbiology represents a unique integration of basic and applied sciences, addressing critical areas such as health, molecular biology, biotechnology, immunology, infectious diseases, water microbiology, food microbiology and genetics. As an applied biological science, microbiology department at KISSR deals with the role of microbes in human health, biodegradation, bioenergy production, and food industries and how these organisms interact with humans, other living beings, and the environment in both beneficial and harmful ways.

The microbiology department comprises multidisciplinary researchers with expertise in cancer, biotechnology, immunology, bacteriology, food microbiology, water microbiology, pollution, molecular biology, food quality control and genetics. Our faculty hold prestigious research and awards focusing on basic and translational studies on infectious diseases, microbial metabolism, microbial genetics, human health, antimicrobial resistance and environment.

Mission

  • Understand the molecular mechanisms that drive pathogen behavior.
  • Assess the risks and mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance.
  • Examining the role of gut microbiota in nutrition and overall health.
  • Studying the gut microbiome and its metabolites as potential cancer promoters or inhibitors.
  • Investigating the interactions between microorganisms، environmental pollutants  and food quality control.

Vision

The vision of the department is to:

  • Provide excellence in the field of microbiology
  • Be recognized as a research center of preeminence in research and innovation.
  • Improve health outcomes, and enhancing the quality of life.
